The world is full of poisons. They are in our air, water, food, medicines, homes, and communities. There are so many poisons that it's hard to keep track of them. How can the average person identify and avoid all these poisons?
Toxicology is the study of poisons. Toxicologists classify poisons from animals (venom), plants (alkaloids), bacteria and viruses (toxins), and chemicals (pollutants). Some of these poisons are easier to identify and avoid than others. We all know how to avoid snake venom and poison ivy, but how do we avoid bacterial and viral toxins and chemical pollutants, all of which are invisible?
Bacteria and viruses often result from poor hygiene. Most people, including doctors, don't understand or appreciate the importance of hygiene. In order to maintain proper hygiene, we must focus on the cleanliness of our body, clothes, food, water, air, and home. Proper hygiene promotes health and prevents sickness.
Chemical pollutants often result from industry and agriculture, both of which are more concerned with profit than health. Governments frequently fail to protect us from industrial and agricultural pollution. So we must be informed, vigilant, and proactive about chemical pollutants. Environmentalism protects public health.
Poisons interfere with our metabolism and make us sick. Poisons are so powerful that they confuse our mind and our doctors. Our mind tells us that we need something to make us feel better. So we turn to addictive substances, like alcohol and tobacco - which are also poisons. Our doctors tell us that we need something to counteract poisons. So they give us pharmaceuticals - which are also poisons. Addictive substances and pharmaceuticals are quick fixes that increase our body's load of poisons and our craving for addictive substances. This creates a vicious cycle of poison, sickness, and addiction, which I call the Toxic Craving Cycle.
The Toxic Craving Cycle is responsible for a lot of chronic sickness and treatment failures. Most doctors focus on a specific diagnosis and ignore the connection between poison, sickness, and addiction. This approach results in endless, ineffective, expensive health-care. Poison, sickness, and addiction must be dealt with in an integrated, comprehensive program, such as the LOVE Diet.
The LOVE Diet promotes health by focusing on clean air, pure water, organic food, and the avoidance of toxins and addictions. The LOVE Diet breaks the Toxic Craving Cycle and establishes a strong, healthy metabolism that is resistant to poison, sickness, and addiction. In contrast to the Toxic Craving Cycle, the LOVE Diet creates a satisfying cycle of hygiene, health, and nutrition. (Click here for FAQs about the Toxic Craving Cycle and Self-Control.)
